shoutFriday, 22 February, 2013 - 17:34French photojournalist and Demotix contributor Olivier Voisin died Sunday, Feb. 25, from injuries in northern Syria. He was 38 years old. He never regained consciousness following an operation on Friday. One familiar with the situation tells Demotix that on Saturday, doctors in the Turkish border city where Voisin was initially operated on deemed it too dangerous to transfer him to Paris for further treatment. Visual journalists operate as trustees of the public. Our primary role is to report visually on the significant events and varied viewpoints in our common world. Our primary goal is the faithful and comprehensive depiction of the subject at hand. As visual journalists, we have the responsibility to document society and to preserve its history through images.
