In light of the Bombing at the Boston Marathon, Security was tighter than normal at the 2013 Deep River Rock Belfast Marathon. There was approximately 20000 runners/walkers/wheelchair competitors who took part.

A security alert continues in Foxes Glen as police investigate reports of an alleged bomb in the same area shots had been fired at police the previous day.

Army ATOs were called in to deal with a suspicious device, found the day after six shots were fired at PSNI officers after they were lured into the area. A number of homes in Foxes' Glen were evacuated during the alert.

Kenyan Joel Kipsang Kositany was the first man to cross the finish line of this year's Belfast City Marathon in a time of 2:19:27. Nataliya Lehonkova set a new course record with her time of 2:36:50 to become the first female across the line.

PSNI investigate a serious sexual assault on a 17 year old girl beside a children's play park in Botanic Gardens in South Belfast. A 21 year old male has been arrested in connection with the incident.
