How do I upload my images and video?

You can upload your images and video to Demotix in several ways. They're all explained on our Upload Methods page.

How do I change/add an Upload Code!

The Upload code can be changed through your Account settings on the Demotix website.

Click "Settings" at the top of any page when logged in, choose "Account" and then enter anything you like as an Upload Code in the field.

TIP: You shouldn’t use your regular password as an upload code, because FTP transfers your details unencrypted.

Can I upload video?

What video file type do you accept?

Demotix accepts MOV, AVI, MP4, MPEG and WMV video files only. For more information please see the How To Upload Video Blog

What is the best browser to view and upload to Demotix?

Google Chrome is the best for uploading and viewing experience with Demotix. We suggest downloading a new version of Chrome - here. If you cannot use Chrome, then Firefox or the latest release of Internet Explorer is just as good.

Please ensure that you have the latest IE8 updates installed on your Internet Explorer browser also. You may need to download (free) "Silverlight" from the Internet Explorer website. here. Once it has been installed return to the Demotix site with latest IE8 version and as soon as the site has finished loading click on the "compatibility button" (located next to the refresh button).

For Mac users, Chrome is the best browser option for OS 10.5 or above.

I want to upload via Adobe Lightroom, How do I do that?

What IPTC fields are taken by Demotix?

Keywords, Individuals and captions for each image.

I can't upload anything to Demotix using my usual method! What should I do now?

If you are having problems uploading, please make sure you have tried all of the upload methods explained in the instructions above. If the desktop uploader isn't working, can you still FTP files to us, or upload them via the website.

I can’t see my story after uploading?

There is a slight delay, if you are contributor, between sending and your work being published onto the site. FTP and Plugins are much quicker. This delay can be minimised by adding the correct data first ie.: individual captions, keywords.

I want to upload via FTP, What software do I need?

Demotix works really well with FileZilla - its small to download and you can have your images in your Existing Media file quickly. Here is the download link for FileZilla.

I can't log into the FTP server?

Are you using the correct details? Please note the server address is upload.demotix.com. Please check your username and upload code - do not use your Demotix.com password. For further help on this visit this help page FTP Upload Link

What file size do I need to upload?

As high as possible. Most cameras have multiple options to set the quality - please review your camera manual. For maximum global distribution, please upload above 6 megapixels / 17MB memory per image. More information on our Uploading Reports Help Blog.

Can I upload scanned negatives?

Yes. These are images as well. Please make sure you provide enough information for verification though with these as sometimes data can be lost. More information on our Uploading Reports Help Blog.

I’ve uploaded images but everything has vanished?

Sometimes when uploading to Demotix your Internet may drop during this process, which may affect sending us images. Even after entering all the events details, you can still re-upload from the same page. Your images will still be within the Existing Images. If you receive an error during captioning - your story will still be sent to us. After sending the story to Demotix - there is a delay on it being published live, due to publishers checking your work. More information here in our Uploading FAQ.

What should I do if I have problems while uploading?

If you're having trouble using the upload page, the first thing to do is try again using a different browser.

Try as many of the different upload methods listed at the top of this page as you can.

If you're still having the same problem, please send an email to support{at}demotix.com including the following:
-the name and version number of your operating system
-the name and version number of the browser you're using
-any error codes that appear and what actions you take that cause them to occur
-any screenshots that you are able to take of the error
-your Demotix username
-details of your internet connection and internet service provider
-your location

Please wait to email us until you have tried at least two of the different upload methods explained above and collected all of the information we will need to resolve your problem - there are thousands of you and only a few of us!

There is no point emailing us and just saying "it doesn't work" or "I can't upload" - that does not give us any of the details we will need to identify what might be causing your problem.
