Holy Week in Christianity is the last week of Lent and the week before Easter. It includes the religious holidays of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.

Being a brotherhood is inside myself. Being a brotherhood it means brings the religion to the people who don't want come to the church. Being a brotherhood is the more important thing. The Brotherhood of Pontificia y Real del Gran Poder y la Esperanza de la Macarena (Brotherhood of Pontifical and Royal of Great Power and Hope of Macarena) was founded 41 years ago. Currently there are nearly 300 fraternity members and it is the main Catholic brotherhood in Barcelona and who organised the main procession during the Holy Week. Almost all its members are from Andalusia (south of Spain), where the Catholic religion is carrying the most weight in Spain.

During the last month before the Holy Week is when the brotherhood has more activity, when the preparation of the image of Jesus, Esperanza de la Macarena and Jesus and the Donkey need more attention. A group of 15 people gather almost everyday to clean them, put flowers and polish the statues.
