The popular Procession of Jesus of Nazareth of Medinaceli, had to be cancelled because of rain. People who spend hours outside the Basilica of Jesus of Medinaceli were expectedly frustrated and disappointed. Spain, Madrid 22/04/2011
The Good Friday procession of Jesús de Nazareno de Medinaceli, Jesus of Nazareth of Medinaceli, in Madrid, has a huge following of faithful and Catholics in general. It came as no surprise that tensions and frustrations were very high for most of late afternoon and evening amongst the faithful because of the stormy weather.
Father Angel Garcia officially conveyed the cancellation of the procession at 6:00pm an hour before the procession was due to start. Immediately after the news the religious authorities started preparing the inside of the Basilica so that the faithful could go inside to pay homage to Jesus of Nazareth of Medinaceli.
By this time the local police and some members of the National Police took charge of the area in front of the Basilica to keep people in order. By this time tension was very high amongst those waiting outside the Basilica. Some would have been queuing from early morning to make sure they had an advantageous place.
At about 7:00pm people were allowed inside the Basilica starting with dignitaries and fraternity members of Jesus of Nazareth of Medinaceli. By this time two huge queues had formed going back to the Paseo del Prado.
For those who are familiar with Madrid the Basilica of Jesus of Nazareth of Medinaceli is in Plaza de Jesus, behind the Ministry of Health in the Paseo del Prado. The Prado museum is opposite the ministry on the other side of the Paseo.
