Triumphant Romney Is Ready For Obama
Mitt Romney emerged as the Republican favorite to with the nomination Tuesday, when he swept his opponents aside at the New Hampshire Primary. Taking some 36 percent of the votes cast, Romney put a considerable distance between himself and his nearest rivals Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman.
In his victory speech, Romney pledged to restore America.
“We can make America great again. I believe the disappointments of the last few years are a detour, not our destiny,” he said.
A triumphant Romney told supporters they had made history.
"Tonight we celebrate. Tomorrow we go back to work," Romney said, immediately assuming the posture of the Republican nominee who will face President Barack Obama in the November election.
Calling Obama "a failed president," Romney said he was asking "the good people of South Carolina to join the good citizens of New Hampshire to make 2012 the year he (Obama) runs out of time."
"This president puts his faith in government. We put our faith in the American people," Romney said to cheers.
Underscoring his guiding principles of liberty, free enterprise and military strength, Romney said that he would seek inspiration in the cities of America rather than those of Europe. He warned that President Obama intended to turn America into a European-style welfare state incapable of fighting a war on two fronts.
